Our time was up in Ngepi and it was time to hit the road(or what was left of it). On our way to the Botswana border we stumbled upon a little gem of a park called Mahango. We took the scenic drive following the river and what a nice area.
Leaving Namibia on our way to Guma we turned right onto the A35 and we should have known that we are in for a bumpy ride when Garmin stated ‘Turn right on to potholed road’.
It was one of the worst roads I ever had the displeasure of driving on. We stopped from time to time to stretch some legs and relax the senses.
Guma was chosen as a destination because of the recommendation by a good friend. Lauras brother is the manager at Guma and as people that has spent many years in Botswana we believed her recommendation and it had to be a special place.
Boy oh boy what a gem.
The last 20 odd kilometres to Guma is thick sand and we got stuck towing the Cheetah. We left it there and took it to a safe place the following day. The quietness and peacefulness at Guma is indescribable.
Lounging around the water on the deck solving world problems that doesn’t exist at Guma and eating way too much of the great cuisine was really cleansing our souls.
We have to mention the birdlife at this place. Waking up in the morning to the songs of birds we dont even know has left a lasting impression on us. We also took a boat trip through the waterways and to say I got a picture or two of some birds is a complete understatement.
Too soon it was time to leave this piece of paradise and move on to our next destination. Inflate our tyres after the thick sand before we hit the A35 again, on our way to Maun .
It is with sadness that we have to say goodbye to Laura today (28/11/2018) who lost her battle with cancer. RIP you beautiful woman. You will always be in our memories especially when we think or talk about Guma.
